Wikihouse

Wikihouse is an Open Source construction system developed by 00 and incorporated as a not-for-profit Foundation, currently with 14 global chapters.

It uses digital manufacturing to make it possible for anyone to download and ‘print‘ customised, low-cost, high performance buildings adapted to their needs, which they can quickly assemble themselves, without conventional construction skills.

WikiHouse is a way of bringing the ‘third industrial revolution’ to a mass market: radically lowering the barriers of cost, time and skill and giving users the power to create small dwellings which are sustainable, sociable and resilient by investing their time and effort through the social economy as well as the monetary economy.

Over the last nine years – with a growing community of collaborators – have been developing and prototyping the system, supporting projects around the world, from Christchurch New Zealand to one of Rio’s favelas. Wikihouse has been awarded a TED City 2.0 prize and has been exhibited internationally from the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea to the Milan Design Fair and Rotterdam.
