OPDC Business Ecosystem
Architecture 00 were commissioned by the OPDC to undertake research into the diverse industrial business ecosystem of Old Park Royal. With a specific focus on minority ethnic businesses, the research attempted to uncover the cultural diversity of small business enterprises in this dense and well-established Strategic Industrial Location (SIL). The report unpacks the socio-cultural significance of the area, inter-business relationships, supply chains, spatial typologies and more, generating informed recommendations for how to support these businesses.
The project brought together a range of research and analysis techniques such as quantitative data analysis by Stantec, 1:1 discussions with local experts, and on-the-ground business visits and walking tours led by local collaborators Joanna Dudzinska and Sulaiman Othman.
As part of the commission, Architecture 00 administered mini-grants for business shopfront improvements through close collaboration with RareKind, the Republic of Park Royal and the local creative community. Primarily aimed at signage and business wayfinding improvements, the process of design development and delivery also created opportunities for relationship building and disseminating information about the OPDC and the regeneration of the surrounding area.
