Joining the Dots, Crystal Palace

A COMMISSIONED STUDY EMERGED FROM MULTIPLE AND ON-GOING CONVERSATIONS WITH RESIDENTS AND ORGANISATIONS ACROSS THE CRYSTAL PALACE AREA

In July 2014, the Mayor of London commissioned 00 to carry out a study of Crystal Palace, including the town centres of Upper Norwood, Anerley and Penge. The focus of the study was to document and share the richness of the area, and explore opportunities for regeneration built on existing riches, ideas, and proposals uncovered. Crucially, the study was a first step towards building up an improved understanding of the area for the officers of the five boroughs it spans, and towards a framework for enhanced coordination of projects, priorities and investments.

Location of project: Crystal Palace

Client: Greater London Authority

Programme: August 2014 - January 2015

Scope:
Area Vision with Projects Portfolio & Toolkit
Community-led Regeneration Strategy

Multi-borough Engagement

For the commission, 00 worked intensely on a strand of engagement across the five boroughs, analysing strategic policy objectives and trends across Croydon, Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham and Bromley, as well as hosting a series of 1-1 meetings with 14 officers across housing, enterprise, planning and regeneration departments, meeting with local councillors, attending multiple feed-back and iteration sessions with the Greater London Authority.  Based on Council feedback, the study was packaged into a useful resource for Council officers and residents alike, pairing an analysis of the area with innovative tactics across area governance, physical interventions, programming and infrastructure.
