ESEACC at the Old Bath House
Fitout of the East and South East Asian Community Centre (ESEACC) with community hall, kitchen and garden, café/restaurant, classrooms and affordable studios.
Architecture00 began working with Hackney Chinese Community Services in 2019, supporting them in their bid to secure Good Growth Funding with the intent of undertaking fitout works to the Old Bath House, transforming the historic building in De Beauvoir into a fit-for-purpose community centre.
Over the following 5 years, Architecture00 have worked closely with HCCS, LB Hackney (the building freeholder) and their design team to bring the space back into use. Given the dilapidated state of the building, retrofitting included both landlord-led fabric works by HP Architects as well as the fit out works led by 00. This has preserved and uncovered the historic features of the local landmark, improved its thermal efficiency and created a new asset for the community — complete with café/restaurant, affordable studio space, classrooms and community hall, kitchen and garden — within a largely residential neighbourhood.
As the first dedicated community centre for East and Southeast Asian people in the country, it provides 2,500 sqft of flexible space for a range of social, cultural, and educational activities. It has enabled the HCCS to expand their programming, offering a safe, welcoming space for multi-generational members of the community to come together, celebrate their cultural heritage, and access vital services.
ESEACC is welcome to all. So, if you ever find yourself in the area, drop by for a coffee or join the one of the very popular lunch clubs!
